The collection includes 142 mounted and unmounted photographs of varying sizes, with some duplicate prints. The photos were probably taken by William Tobey during his early years as a staff photographer with the News Office. The works consist of documentary and publicity shots of Harvard University. They have been divided into two series, University views and University activities. The first series includes interiors and exteriors of buildings, river views and views of the John Harvard statue. The second series consists of professors, students, alumni, and families involved in activities that include studying, sports, music, science, commencements and reunions. Some images are identified, but most are not.
