Railroad ephemera collection, ca. 1861-1968 (bulk 1920-1960).

Summary: Advertising brochures and pamphlets, timetables, internal company communications, union documents, technical instructions, employee manuals, and other materials relating primarily to the Southern Pacific Railroad but also to other railroads in the Southwest United States. There are brochures advertising railway travel to the 1939 World's Fair, drawings and technical specifications for Southern Pacific signage and laying of track, brochures from the Pullman Company, and a portfolio of paintings by artist Howard Fogg of New York Central Line scenes. There is a map titled "Railways of Southeastern United States" published in 1861 but most materials are from the 1940s to 1960s. There are brochures about Southern Pacific train service during World War II, information about the Southern Pacific Junior Engineer and Junior Stewardess programs, agreements between Southern Pacific and railroad unions in 1903 and the 1930s and 1940s, rules and regulations, telegraph code books, employee timetables and passenger timetables. Also present is a photo-essay documenting a trip on the "El Burro" train in Patagonia in 1961 and a demurrage record book from the Fairbanks, Arizona train station dated 1912 to 1915, a timetable of the Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend Railroad Company dated 1960, and a record of arrival times for the Gila Valley, Globe and Northern Railway in 1905-1906. The only payroll information present is a time roll for bridge and track building employees, 1907-1908 for the Southern Pacific Tucson Division, and a payroll ledger copybook for Southern Pacific, 1918. There are also issues of the Southern Pacific Bulletin from 1931 to 1966.

Biographical note: Railroad dispatcher; A.B. Pinnell worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad throughout his life. He was first president of the Old Pueblo Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Association and amassed a large collection of railroad memorabilia.
