Alfonso C. Colangelo served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 97th Infantry Division. He enlisted on 3 October 1944 and completed his basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. On 6 April 1945, he was assigned to the 97th Infantry Division in Europe. After rotating to the U.S. in June 1945, C Company, 386th Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division reassembled at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for deployment to Japan.
