An historian of both American politics and New Jersey, Richard Patrick McCormick was born on December 24, 1916 in New York, N.Y. He received his A.B. in 1938 and his A.M. in 1940, both from Rutgers University, and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1948.
