Brigadier General, U.S. Army. Memoirs of cadet life at West Point, 1872-1876, 45 typed pages describing Garlington's preparations for entering the academy, and the cadet participation at U.S. Grant's inauguration ceremonies. Of the four black cadets mentioned by Garlington, only Henry Ossian Flipper graduated. An explanatory letter, to General Smith accompanies the memoirs. This letter recounts some additional incidents that occurred while Garlington was a cadet at West Point.
