Patti Durr collection on Deaf Holocaust survivors 2000-2009

Patti Durr's filmed interviews and transcripts conducted with deaf survivors of the Holocaust, as well as copies of two films created from the interviews. Also included are copies of older interviews conducted by Simon Carmel, former NTID faculty. The Patti Durr collection on Deaf Holocaust Survivors consists of 15 DV Cam Masters and 7 DVD copies of her interviews with deaf Holocaust survivors. Some interviews have transcripts: Ingelore Honigstein, Lilly Rattner Shirey, "Worry: A Jewish Deaf-Blind Survivor Shares her Story" (a documentary), Doris Fedrid, Frank Stieffel, and Simon Carmel. Additionally, the collection also contains films and interviews by former NTID professor Simon Carmel, including footage of the New Jersey Deaf Jewish Convention Holocaust survivors. Testimonies include Frieda Wurmfeld, Rose Feld Roseman, and Stan Teger. "How I Became Involved with the Research on Deaf Holocaust," Durr's filmed interview of Carmel describing his experiences interviewing Deaf survivors, is also included.

Associate professor of social sciences and deaf studies in NTID's cultural and creative studies department, Patti Durr began teaching at NTID/RIT in 1990. Durr has been instrumental in developing Deaf Studies courses at NTID and is actively involved in the community. In 2004, by rigorous peer review of student nominations, she was awarded the RIT Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching.
