The memoirs focus on his service in WWII in USS Nevada (BB 36), the assault on Attu, Atlantic convoy operations, D-Day landings and Southern France, Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll, 1946, post war career; including student and staff time at the Naval War College, 1959-1962; CO, Naval Station, San Diego, 1968-1970; and retirement. Included is a volume of copies of the situation summaries of the Battle of Okinawa, April 1945.

Allen P. Cook was born in 1917 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1940. He was in USS Nevada (BB36) during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
