Autograph letter signed with initials : Brussels, to Mrs. Hewitt, [year unknown] May 22.

Saying that "you wonder at my not liking writing. It is not the mere trouble that I don't like, but I read so much less than I ought, that I feel my head dried up like a nut for want of rain. You will say it's the heart, but it's not. I've got no ideas--have to stop and think before I can come upon any thing worth putting down;" talking about a long railroad journey the previous day; saying that "today in Brussels I see an ugly white wall and hear bells ringing and don't feel inspired by either;" asking if she has read 'Sartor Resartus' and saying that he is going "to read it again carefully through, every sentence is worth it;" asking her to send all her letters to him to Denmark Hill and they will be forwarded to him.
