Results of the 1985 underwater survey, Silver Lake, Leicester, Vermont, 1986.

Collection consists of the report of a survey by divers James Purdy, Alan Rixon, and Susan Alfonso of a part of the bottom of Silver Lake in Leicester, Vt. in 1984 and 1985. There are brief summaries of the history of Native American use of the lake, the Silver Lake Camp Meeting, founded by Frank Chandler in 1879 with a seminary building and chapel constructed around 1885, and the Silver Lake Hotel which took over the building around 1910; the hotel was later abandoned and burned to the ground in 1942. In 1917 the lake was dammed, gradually creating a deep layer of silt.
