Abstract

Green card is a soap opera style drama centered on Sumie Nobuhara, a foreign exchange student from Japan who immigrates to the United States to live a life of freedom. As Sumie attempts to obtain a green card by getting married, her stay in the United States becomes fraught with obstacles of cultural differences and language barriers. These issues are examined through Sumie's observations, experiences and personal conflicts.
