Born in Des Moines County, Iowa, Carl Theophilus Widen (1884-1985), was the son of Swedish immigrants Carl August Widen and Gustava Peterson. After attending Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska, and Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, Widen graduated from the University of Texas in 1902.
