James Ogleby studied medicine at the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1868. He was a physician in Danville, Pennsylvania, specializing in the eye and its treatment, and for a while was in a medical partnership with surgeon Dr. James D. Strawbridge.
