Reel 1 contains notes and typescripts on Othello and other Shakespeare plays (1950-1951), and "Othello: An Essay to Illustrate a Method;" miscellaneous articles mentioning Burke; notes for "Disposition of the Arts" and "The End and Means of Simplification;" drafts of poems (1930s- ); Harvard Summer School Conference on the Defense of Poetry (1950). Reel 2 contains United Nations notes and clippings (1946-1947); notes and typescripts on Poe, poetic posturing, Freud; index to Traditional Principles of Rhetoric; typed manuscript of Religious and Poetic Piety; Book of Moments correspondence (1955); typed manuscripts of chapters "Perspective by Incongruity" and "The Basis of Simplification" for his book, Permanence and Change." Reel 3 contains the continuation of the typed manuscripts for Permanence and Change; typescripts of revised drafts; first draft of A Grammar of Motives; original version of A Rhetoric of Motives, completely rewritten for publication; and drafts and final draft of A Rhetoric of Motives. Reel 4 contains drafts of A Rhetoric of Motives, some materials from A Grammar of Motives, and drafts of Attitudes Toward History. Reel 5 contains the first draft of Poetics, drafts and part of the epilegomena of A Grammar of Motives, letter from George Conklin and manuscript about Attitudes Toward History. Reel 6 contains the balance of the files of the epilegomena of A Grammar of Motives, clippings and notes for A Rhetoric of Motives, and epilegomena and notes for Rhetoric of Religion. Reel 7 contains clippings and notes for The Rhetoric of Religion.
