Mars Pathfinder Flight Systems Management Documents Collection, 1979-1999 (Bulk 1993-1995).

Brian K. Muirhead authored a number of the documents in the collection. These include presentation documents, printouts of e-mail messages, interoffice memoranda, correspondence, and handwritten calculations. Other documents in the collection were his personal office copies. In addition to JPL documents, the collection contains documents from subcontractor companies such as McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, Martin Marietta Astronautics, and Modular Devices, Inc., all of which developed some of Pathfinder's components. Muirhead had grouped the documents by topic in fifty-seven large expandable file folders. The subject titles that Brian Muirhead assigned to the expandable folders have been preserved in this collection's arrangement as fifty-four topical series headings. The collection has only fifty-four topical series headings because the file folders Muirhead designated as MMR Project II, III, IV and VI were condensed into one series heading. The original order of the accession's file folder topics has been retained for the most part, except in those instances where identical topics were not grouped together. In those cases, series such as the Monthly Management Reports, which were scattered throughout the accession, have been proximally organized. Within each topical series, the documents have been arranged in chronological order. It should be noted that in some cases, a series appears to be missing. For example, there was a folder labeled "ATLO IV," but no folders labeled "ATLO I, II, or III." It is possible that Brian Muirhead retained those folders, or perhaps it was a numbering error, or he merely consolidated several folders into one. The collection contains design reviews, management reviews, interoffice memoranda, correspondence, printouts of e-mail messages and faxes, presentation documents, status reports and schedules. Five Laboratory documents identified as "JPL Discreet" materials were removed from their folders and placed in a box at the end of the collection. Additionally, eight non-JPL documents identified as "proprietary information," "sensitive," or "trade secret" were also placed in the final box of the collection. Separation sheets have been placed in the collection to mark the original locations of these documents.
