Mars Pathfinder As Built Documents Collection, 1993-1997.

From mid-1995 through August 1996, the Mars Pathfinder lander and rover were assembled at JPL. In April and May of 1996, the integrated spacecraft was tested in JPL's twenty-five foot Space Simulator, exposing Mars Pathfinder to intense cold and heat. From June through August 1996, operational testing of the lander and rover was performed in both the Space Simulator and a clean room facility at JPL. From September through November 1996, Mars Pathfinder underwent final assembly and testing at Kennedy Space Center, prior to preparation for launch. Folders 2-66 of this collection contain the "As Built" procedures that provided the steps and instructions used during the integration and assembly of some of the spacecraft's parts and electronic components. Each group of As Built procedures focuses on a specific spacecraft part or electronic component and typically includes the following documentation: Assembly Instruction and Data Sheets (AIDS); AIDS Logs; Inspection Reports (IR) and Logs; Kit Lists that enumerated the parts needed for assembly and stamps of Quality Assurance approval; the As Built part listing; and related Engineering Change Instructions. Folders 67-73 contain the Engineering Change Instructions for the parts and components described in the As Built procedures. Digital Sun Sensor Acceptance Tests and Inspection Reports are located in Folders 74-83, and an IMP decal (Imager for Mars Pathfinder), located among the documents, is in Folder 84. The As Built and Engineering Change documents in Folders 1-84 remain in the original order in which they were received from Susan Roberts. Folders 85-220 are engineering drawings of the parts and components described in the As Built procedures. The engineering drawings have been organized in numerical order. They were naturally divided into two series, those beginning with part numbers starting with "1015" and the remainder, which begin with parts numbered "1016." The Archives Transfer Request forms that accompanied the records are preserved in Folder 1.
