Jewett, Librarian of Smithsonian Institute outlining the U.S. Military Academy Library's holdings. Coppee goes on to describe the functions and history of the library in a letter dated 7 Oct. l85l. The letter of Dec. 10th to Mr. Jefft an autograph collector, discusses collecting.

Henry Coppée was born in Savannah, Georgia, to a family of French extraction that had formerly settled in Haiti. He studied at Yale University for two years, worked as a civil engineer, and finally graduated from West Point in 1845.
