George A. Nay Civil War letters, 1864-1865.

This collection consists of six photocopied letters written by George A. Nay during the Civil War to his sister, Frances Nay, and mother, Lucretia Nay, in Fairfax, Vermont. Nay writes from Camp Russell, Petersburg, Virginia, and Camp Stoneman in 1864 and 1865. In the letters, he inquires about his sister's and mother's news, asks his mother to send him flannel shirts and money, and reports about his actions and observations. He relates some observations of General Winfield Scott Hancock in one of his letters. His sister appears to have been his primary correspondent; at one point, in November 1864, he thanks her for a letter and mentions that it had been the first one he received since joining the army.
