Includes interview conducted in 1991 by David Kennedy, Chair, Stanford University History Department, on his experiences during World War II.

a J. Herbert Mee was born in 1915 in San Francisco, CA. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1939. He enlisted in the Navy in 1940 and was commissioned as an ensign in 1941. He served in USS Quincy on convoy duty in the North Atlantic, then at the Guadalcanal Landing in August 1942 where the ship was sunk, then in USS Boston which participated in the major landings in the Pacific, and, finally, as CIC instructor in Pearl Harbor, HI. He worked as a landman for Standard Oil...
