Sir John Fortescue, a prominent scholar of Greek and Latin, became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1589. Fortescue became wealthy through his office and connections to the Custom House. Queen Elizabeth granted Fortescue a number of land grants and in 1601 he became Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. From the description of Order of the Exchequer, 1602 April 30. Hausdorfer, Walter, 1898-1970

Walter Hausdorfer began his library career as a student assistant in the Sullivan Library, Temple Univ. In 1925 he became the Assistant Librarian. After obtaining his library degree at Columbia, Hausdorfer directed the Columbia School of Business Library for 16 years. Between 1946 and 1963 Hausdorfer served as head librarian at Temple Univ.
