Clement M. Silvestro papers, 1955-1962.

Manuscript drafts and notes, bibliographic materials, daily planners, and other papers of Clement M. Silvestro, a historian, author, and one-time director of the Chicago Historical Society. The majority of the collection consists of manuscript drafts and research notes for Silvestro's doctoral dissertation, titled "None but Patriots: The Union Leagues in Civil War and Reconstruction" (1959). Present are reel-to-reel tapes and microfilm reels related to Silvestro's research. Includes also daily planners (1958-1962); a copy of "Organizing a Local Historical Society" by Silvestro, published in the American Association for State and Local History bulletin (January 1959); and related research notes. Microfilm boxed with collection includes research materials collected by Silvestro about the Union League of America from research institutions across the United States.

Clement Mario Silvestro (b. 1924) was a historian, author, and one-time director of the Chicago Historical Society. Silvestro received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin in 1959. He served as director of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) and editor of History News.
