Many scenic views and photographs of passengers on the S.S. Buford (which bears "San Francisco Chamber of Commerce" painted large on side of ship). Locations and natural attractions depicted include Nome, Juneau, Seward, Wrangell Island, Unalaska, Teller, Ketchikan, Pribiloff Island, Skagway, Duncan's Bay, Swanson's Bay, Auk Lake, Cordova, Copper River, Akutan whaling station, Dutch Harbor, Salmon Creek, Taku Glacier, Mendenhall Glacier, Spencer Glacier, Miles Glacier and Muir Glacier. Also included are numerous views of eskimos, of whaling (specifically of humpback whales), walrus hunting, and siberian huskies. Several photographs of Roald Amundsen and his pilot Lt. Omdahl are present.

While on an Arctic exploration, Amundsen's ship, the Maud, was disabled by a broken propeller off the Siberian coast. He requested assistance from Captain Claude S. Cochran on the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Bear.
