The Los Angeles Society of Internal Medicine was formed in 1929. The Society attempted to unite medical subspecialists and general internists, practicing physicians and academicians at the Los Angeles County Medical Association building or at a downtown hotel for approximately six social and dinner programs each year. In 1956, the Coroner's Committee of the Los Angeles County Medical Association ran a campaign to hire a new coroner for Los Angeles County and bring in a medical doctor to fill the position (medical examiner).
