Richard C. Bates papers, 1941-2004.

The collection offers excellent insight into the Medical School during the accelerated curriculum during World War II and contains correspondence, notebooks and exams, Galens and Phi Chi programs, smoker scripts, and songbooks. Of note are the Thymico-Lymphathic Constitution papers from 1943-1946 and the collected biographies of the class of 1944 spanning 1945 to 2004. The collection also contains several photographs of the class of 1944, Galens, and the Phi Chi Fraternity.

A member of the University of Michigan medical class of 1944, Dr. Bates was an intern-resident at the University Hospital from 1944-1949 and served at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital from 1953-1955. Dr. Bates was very active in the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity and Galens Honorary Medical Society during his years at the University of Michigan.
