Correspondence, accounts, and contract. Correspondence deals primarily with instructions to James S. Yeates, Pugh's agent in Georgia, to oversee crop production and to hire Negroes to work his Georgia plantation. Includes Pugh's descriptions of crop prospects in North Carolina; his opinions of the radicial congress, Civil War deserters, and lack of work by Freedmen; and his plans to return to Georgia. A significant item is a Decatur, Ga., contract (July 15, 1865) between Yeats and Pugh's former slaves for conditions of employment and payment for work on Pugh's land.
