Byron Porter was born in 1843 in Ohio. He moved to southwestrn Pennsylvania and spent the majority of his life here. He worked as a clerk for a number of years until he opened a photograph studio in 1869. He maintained this business until he was elected prothonotary in 1893. He worked as a notary after this and then joined Title and Trust Company of Western Pennsylvania. He died in 1941. From the description of Byron Porter papers 1919-1930.
