Zane Grey Inn and Museum records, 1948-1985.

Assembled collection of materials relating to the operation of the Zane Grey Inn and Zane Grey Museum by Helen Davis and her husband, Al Davis, including guest ledgers, brochure artwork, collected reference materials, and photographs. Helen Davis bought Zane Grey's house in Lackawaxen, Pa., for his widow in 1945 and opened the Zane Grey Inn in 1948. From 1973 until 1989 Davis and her husband operated the Zane Grey Museum to display Grey memorabilia, photographs, and books in the rooms that served as Grey's office and study. In 1898 the museum was sold to the National Park Service.

Zane Grey was born Pearl Zane Grey on January 31, 1872 in Zanesville, Ohio to Lewis Grey and Alice Josephine (Zane) Grey. He earned a degree in dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1896. From 1898 to 1904 he lived in New York City and had an unsuccessful dentistry practice. At this time he wrote his first book, Betty Zane, about his Ohio ancestors.
