Collection includes her writings; correspondence; a typescript autobiography and family history; a photocopy of a scrapbook of newspaper clippings; and photographs. The writings reflect Dean's her views on suffrage for women and intervention in World War II as well as her love for her communities and Iowa. Carrie Dean was born in Tipton and graduated from Tipton High School in 1895. In 1904 she married Minott C. ("Pete") Pruyn. She spent most of her adult life as a homemaker in Ida Grove and Sioux City. She was active in many womens' and civic organizations including the America First Committee, a group opposed to U.S. intervention in World War II.
