Washington-Pearce collection, 1793-1798 [microform].

Consists of letters written by George Washington to his Mount Vernon manager, William Pearce from October 1793 through May 1798. Residing in Philadelphia during the second term of his presidency of the United States, Washington still directed almost every phase of the Mount Vernon estate operation by mail. A few of the documents are not letters from Washington to Pearce, to wit: a contract between Washington and a house carpenter and joiner with added signature of Bartholomew Dandridge; a letter from Tobias Lear to Pearce; a document titled "Terms on which the Farms at Mount Vernon may be obtained"; diagrams for crop rotation; a letter from Sarah Green to Washington, which he forwarded to Pearce; a letter from Thomas Patten to Pearce; the calculation of bricks needed for constructing a barn at Washington's River Farm; and a farm plat drawn by Washington.
