William E. McCarron collection, 1976-1983.

The majority of the collection pertains to the writing of the USAF Tactical Air Command Regulation 55-31 which includes adaptations from Nellis AFBR 55-38 on T-38's, plus General Officer's guidance on how F-16's will be flown by the Air Demonstration Squadron (ADS). All draft copies are included along with memos, letters, and discussions pertaining to the final printing of TACR 55-31 in April 1983. Additional materials on the Thunderbirds pertain to personnel manning issues, and audiovisual and maintenances issues, along with photographs of the Thunderbirds Colonel McCarron has also included his files on "The Prince of Parthia," a tragedy originally written in 1765 by Thomas Godfrey and for which McCarron has edited and written a critical introduction which was published in 1976. Finally, other published books, editions, articles, and notes written by William E. McCarron, including his monograph entitled "Then and Since: Perspectives on Vietnam" are contained within the collection.

William E. McCarron was born in Lexington, Massachusetts (MA), received his B.A. in English (1964) from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and his M.A. in English (1965) from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. Upon completion of Air Force ROTC, he entered active duty in 1967 as an instructor in the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Preparatory School.
