3 letters to George Grenville, London, 1768 Feb 6, Sep 3, Oct 20.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of three deliberately anonymous letters to George Grenville concerning political affairs in Great Britain, two of which are signed "C" and one which is unsigned; each, however, is endorsed by Grenville. The first letter tells Grenville that "it is not, Sir, either necessary or proper to make myself known to you at present," and is accompanied by an enclosure on the taxation and the possibility of the imposition of Auction Duty. In the second letter. the writer refers to himself as "the author of some late publications in the newspapers...He has attached himself to your cause and to you alone," and the third letter tells Grenville that "I am conscious these papers have been very unequal; but you will be candid enough to make allowances for a man, who writes absolutely without materials or instruction." These letters are accompanied by 2 ALS of Sir Philip Frances (1740-1818) to Grenville (1764 Jan 19 and n.d.), as well as newspaper cuttings of writings signed "Junius" and "Atticus," the pseudonyms of the writer of the Junius letters.
