Faded leaves from a "sorrowful Nyctanthes", 1835.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of about 40 original poems and one prose piece, mainly on such subjects as reminiscence, regret, and death. The poems are often signed R. C. C. and dated; several include the place of composition, including Calcutta and Madras; and others mention place of publication. The poem titled Well Of The Dead, for example, is annotated "Edin. Literary Journal 1830." Other poems include A Sad Moment: Sonnet To My Sister Mrs. D. P.; A Bachelor's Lament; and The Death Of Felicia Hemans. The collection also includes a number of poems relating to India, including Return to India; Fragment of a Dramatic Sketch, By Verbecca, set in Vellore, India; My Native Land; and a prose piece titled Reminiscences which declares that there may be no situation which will more poignantly recall to a man's mind "a far distant home" than a sick bed. At the end of the volume, pasted in with wax, is a leaf cutting.
