[Diary]; London, 1873 Jan-Dec.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a diary which records the author's daily routine social activities. She visits acquaintances, attends church and reports the topics of the sermons, plays charades, and attends to the education and care of her younger siblings, as well as records the social activities of her parents and, at the end of the diary, her courtship with Fred Hanbury. She also records the names of the books she reads aloud each day, including Charles Dickens' Our mutual friend and Little Dorrit, and excerpts from The Argosy, and keeps accounts of money spent on items such as needles, pens, sweets, and satin. At the end of the volume are lists of questions to be asked on school exams. The diary has been written in the blank spaces of a printed calendar titled "Stacy's Annual Diary for 1873," which also contains lists of phases of the moon; eclipses; sovereigns of Europe; names of the royal family in Great Britain; and names of officials in the city of London for 1873.
