Manuscript volume of extracts concerning costume from a wide variety of sources, including literature, histories, and narratives of voyages and travel. All extracts are identified by a subject title and source information is provided. Entries range from "Fashions in Philadelphia, 1794" and "Mahometan Saints in Egypt, 1737" to "Traits of the Athenians" and "Cossacks in the Ukraine." Lonsdale takes a particular interest in descriptions of costume and stage design from masques, festivals and religious ceremonies.
