Heavily annotated and corrected bound holograph manuscript draft of a lecture delivered by Ruskin at the Working Men's Institute, Camberwell (London), on January 24, 1865. Versos of many leaves contain text. Five slips of manuscript text pasted in. The lecture was subsequently published with some revision in The Crown of Wild Olive (1866) and in his Collected Works (1873). Accompanied by one ALS dated May 27, 1896 from Thomas J. Wise to R. B. Adam in which Wise provides a complete provenance for the manuscript which was previously owned by Wise and later acquired by Adam. In the letter Wise also offers to sell Adam a copy of The Scythian Guest which later was determined to be a forgery.
