James William Denver letters, 1857-1858.

Four letters, one letter written by James Denver to his father-in-law M. Rombach with two letters of introduction to acquaintances in St. Joseph, Missouri, all dated April 24, 1857. One letter from Frank Denver in Sacramento to "Mike" dated Sep. 4 1858. Possibly addressed to M. Rombach, the letter discusses the recent election in California, and suggests that James W. Denver run for the Senate. Accompanied by an "at home" invitation from General and Mrs. Denver, 1876.

James W. Denver was born near Winchester, Virginia. He attended public schools and moved to Ohio with his parents in 1830, settling near Wilmington. In 1841 he taught school in Missouri, and in 1844 he graduated from the law school of the University of Cincinnati. He was admitted to the bar and practiced law near Xenia, Ohio.
