Stojan J. Maras, Jr., was born July 24, 1927 at the Big Ox Mine outside of Marysville, Montana to Stojan J. Maras and Thirza Crawford Maras. John received his GED and spent two years working on an electrical engineering degree before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. He served in the military 1945-1948 stationed at various locations including Guam, Japan, Philippines, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado.
