In this interview Mr. Maras discusses working as a hoist operator at the Park Mines at Grizzly Gulch; the Great Depression; 1935 Helena, Mont. earthquake; military service during World War II; working for the railroad; working for the Montana Power Company; mining operations; Elliston Mine; Sheridan Mine; Pony, Mont.; and attending the movie theater in Helena. Stojan J. Maras, Jr., was born July 24, 1927 at the Big Ox Mine outside of Marysville, Montana to Stojan J. Maras and Thirza Crawford Maras. John received his GED and spent two years working on an electrical engineering degree before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. He served in the military 1945-1948 stationed at various locations including Guam, Japan, Philippines, Arizona, Texas, and Colorado.
