American Legion World Champions : scrapbook, 1928.

A collection of newspaper clippings, correspondence and photographs relating to the American Legion team from Oakland, California. This team won the pennant in July of 1928 and traveled to Arizona, Denver and Chicago to become the first Junior baseball champions. They defeated Worcester, Massachusetts to win the American Legion world series. This team was sponsored by Montgomery Ward and included is correspondence from the boys back to Philip Moore of Montgomery Ward during their travels of August and September 1928. There is also correspondence from June 1928 listing the roster and their positions. Photographs include 8 X 10 action shots, and 8 X 10 of Leroy Sharp, team manager and two which are unidentified. There is a 5 X 7 photo showing a banner with American Legion 1928 Champs on it. There is also a September 8, 1928 newspaper photo of Commissioner Landis with the team in Chicago.
