J.F. Drinkwater designed and painted this book of scriptural text and presented it to his daughter, Miss Ethel M. Drinkwater, 10 May 1906. The pages are highly illuminated and illustrated texts from the Bible beginning with the Sermon on the Mount and continuing with the Lord's Prayer and excerpts from the Gospel according to Matthew. Each page is an original composition making use of calligraphy, original miniatures in color and black and white, highly illuminated letters, and decorated borders in an array of brilliant colors and gilding.
