Walter Donald Bowles (1923- ) earned his B.A. in Economics (1949) from the University of Washington and his M.A. (1952) and PhD both in Economics (1958) from Columbia University. Bowles' career as an economist began in 1953 with his appointment as editor of a research program on the USSR in New York City.
