The symposium was presented in conjunction with the screening of Harry Smith's final film, Mahagonny, at the Getty Research Institute. Lectures investigate the creative work of Smith, who was an experimental filmmaker, anthropologist, painter, and musicologist. The symposium closed with a performance of spoken word and song by Patti Smith.
