Sayre Macneil (1886-1961) attended Harvard Law School, where he served on the Law Review and later returned as a professor. He was also dean of the Loyola University School of Law and was a partner in the Los Angeles law firm of O'Melveny, Stevens, and Millikin.

Henry William O'Melveny was born in Illinois in 1859. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1879. For two years he served as Deputy District Attorney and in 1885 he founded the firm Graves & O'Melveny with Jackson A. Graves.
