The collection consists of letters of instruction and commendation written to Bertrand W. Chapman in his role as a civilian educational advisor to C.C.C. camps in Vermont (Camp Greene) and New Hampshire (a camp in Woodsville, NH). Also included is a newsletter, Barracks Bag, dated April 1940, from the camp in Woodsville, N.H.

Bertrand William Chapman, the son of Corrie Henderson and Bertrand Azra Chapman (1868-1959), was born on April 13, 1900 in Springfield, Vermont. He met and later married Marcella A. Cassard in 1931 or 1932, when they were both graduate students at the University of Vermont. In 1934, he was selected as an educational advisor for C.C.C. camps in Vermont. He served as an advisor to Camp Greene in Vermont, and to a camp in Woodsville, New Hampshire. He resigned as an educational advisor to the C.C.C...
