Pelican tales : the last of the Coast Guard's amphibious aircraft, circa 2006.

First hand narrative written by Capt. Pete Prindle, USCG (Ret.), describing a number of his search and rescue missions from Cape Cod Bay, Mass., to Lake Pontchartrain, La., as command pilot in the Sikorsky HH-3F "Pelican" helicopter. On May 6, 1994 the last HH-3F Pelican was retired from Coast Guard service, marking the end of Coast Guard aviation's "amphibious era." Prindle flew the H-3 for almost 2000 hours, and by 1977, when recording of helicopter landings stopped, he had more than 100 water landings in the Pelican.
