Letters to S.S. McClure, 1894, n.d.

In a letter, 1894 January 25, Pinkerton responds negatively to McClure's request for an article on his father's work during the Civil War. A magazine photograph of Pinkerton is attached. In an undated letter to McClure, Pinkerton inquires whether he has a photograph of Captain R.J. Linden of the Philadelphia Police. Linden, as a Pinkerton employee, was put in charge of the Coal and Iron Police and was to work with James McParland to arrest guilty Molly Maguires. In a postscript he notes that he has marked out portions of the text referring to Tammany Hall and the police which he does not want published.
