Summary: Correspondence, photographs, postcards, slides and photograph albums of Ethel G. Stiffler. Letters were written from Tucson, while a faculty member at the University of Arizona, 1925-1927, and from 1933 until her death in 1955, to her family in Maryland, regarding her professional and personal activities. Photographs, taken by Stiffler, depict scenes around Tucson including Fort Lowell, the University of Arizona, interiors of the Steward Observatory, the Zuni apartments, San Xavier del Bac festival, desert, and border scenes. There are Tohono O'odham images of an olla maker and Indian Oasis; images of owls, hawks, gila monsters and horned toads; the Santa Catalina Mountains, Postcards show locations around Arizona featuring buildings in Tucson, Flagstaff, and Texas as well as rodeo scenes, the Colorado River, desert and animals. Two photo albums in the collection contain images of Tucson and surrounding areas taken in 1925-1927.

Biographical note: Botany professor; Ethel Grace Stiffler was born in Maryland in 1899, daughter of Jacob Clemm Stiffler and Bertha Cross Stiffler. She earned her M.S. degree in Botany at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1925, Ethel moved to Tucson, Arizona to join the University of Arizona faculty for a two year teaching job in Botany.
