Henry Sykes account book, 1838-1862.

Henry Sykes of Suffield, Connecticut, called himself a farmer, but he was also a carpenter and designer from the evidence in this volume. Entries include repairing a plow, making drawings for houses, making drawings of decorative elements like cornices and columns, creating designs for monuments, framing and raising houses, building a workbench, selling hay, lath and boards, and serving as a school visitor. Among his customers were the Springfield Cemetery Association and Amherst College, for whom he built the library.
