Autograph letter signed : Oates [near Harlow, Essex], to Cornelius Lyde, 1696 Apr. 2.

Telling him that the bill "whereby Guineas are reduced to 22s after the 6th instant ... and clippd money prohibited to be taken after the 4th of May" has passed the House of Lords as well as the House of Commons; noting that because this law "lays penalties upon those which receive either Guineas at an higher rate than the law directs, or clipd money as if it were weighty," he "can not desire [Lyde] to transgresse the law"; asking him to give him any "silver" he collected in rent payments so he "may gett [sic] it off before the 4th of May"; hoping that "this trouble about the sorts and value of money is now at an end."
