Miscellaneous items by and about Bishop Quintard include a circular of 1865 issued by Quintard and other members of the Freedmans' Commision of the Episcopal Church, concerning the condition of negroes in the South and appealing for support, Quintard's offers to help Bishop William Rollinson Whittingham in Maryland, and visits to Baltimore, 1866. A Pastoral Letter to the Diocese of Tennessee, 1867, deals with Church charities, help for the poor and orphans, and the need for ministers. William Rollinson Whittingham was born in New York City, N.Y., and graduated from the General Theological Seminary in 1825. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1829 and became rector of Saint Mark's Church in Orange, N.J.
