General description of the collection: The Johnson Family Papers contain a book titled A Record of My Family, Peter Lee Chittenden Johnson. It was compiled by Peter Johnson's wife, Margarita R. Johnson. The book covers the family history through both the Johnson's and Margarita's ancestors. Peter L. Johnson is the fourth generation to go to West Point. The book includes a brief history of Peter's military services and several excerpts of MG Chester Johnson's service from his biography. Chester graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1937. He was assigned to the Field Artillery and in April 1942 was sent to the Philippines and assigned to the 24th and then 88th Field Artillery Regiments, Philippines Scouts. It was from one of these units that he was captured and spent the remainder of the war as a Japanese prisoner. The memoir has photocopies of correspondence, official documents and photographs.
