Jerry Lawler collection, 1804-2005.

Series 1: Postcards, circa 1900-circa 2005. The vast majority of postcards pertain to Lansing, Michigan and East Lansing, Michigan. They depict street scenes, specific buildings and businesses, parks, automobiles, bridges and rivers, and Michigan State University scenes. Series 2: Textual records and artifacts, 1804, 1844, 1879, circa 1919, 1935, 2002, not dated. This series consists of historical items that Lawler acquired. These are as follows: An 1804 promissory note signed by John Lansing, Jr., after whom Lansing, Michigan is named; An 1844 letter signed by James Seymour; A German language copy of the 1879 State of the State address by Michigan governor Charles Croswell; A circa 1919 map of Michigan, with accompanying text pages; A commemorative Michigan centennial envelope with canceled Michigan centennial stamps; A 2002 poster marking the dedication of the Michigan Hall of Justice; Two gold cuff lines and a silver letter opener, all adorned with the State Seal of Michgan. Series 3: Political and labor buttons, circa 1864-circa 1980s. This series consists of six 36" x 24" trays of political buttons and one 24" x 18" tray of labor union buttons. The bulk of the political buttons concern United States Presidential election campaigns and Michigan-related elections. Most of the buttons not relating to the Presidency pertain to Michigan-specific elections.
